Cypress Bend, Florida, is a small southern bayou town filled with long-buried secrets. It's also the home of successful, fiercely independent state prosecutor Grace Courtemanche, who's pulled into a world of terror and self-doubt when she receives a phone call from a young woman buried alive.
In a race to stop a revenge-seeking killer, Grace unearths skeletons from her past along with feelings for the one man she swore she'd never need again, Theodore "Hatch" Hatcher, a rootless, smooth-talking FBI crisis negotiator who's back in Cypress Bend to deal with a secret of his own.

Grace Courtemanche’s ordered world is thrown into chaos when she realises she has missed a few calls from a young woman buried in a box. A race against time to find her ensues and in the middle of it, her path crosses again with her ex-husband who’s also battling a crisis of his own.

Light on the romance and heavy on the suspense, I was skeptical about ‘The Buried’s’ premise initially given the flaky nature of the hero that’s pitted against Grace’s steady, if uptight nature. Throw in a wayward teenage son and I was about to throw in the towel at page 10 but was spurred to keep on reading because I liked Grace immensely. Unravelling the murder plot however, was quite a riveting process and I’m glad Grace got what she needed at the very end.
