Teacher Kate Abbott's fresh start in Still Harbor was the beginning of the life that she and her two best friends always imagined for themselves. Still, being a working single parent of a special needs daughter hasn't exactly improved Kate's love life. But Kate's preference for nachos over men quickly disappears when she meets the oh-so-sexy Matt Lane.
Until she finds out he's a cop.
Matt is a former cop-turned-private investigator, and he knows fear when he sees it. A cop clearly spooked Kate...or hurt her. Still, something about the gorgeous professor catches his attention, and despite his "no settling down" policy, he can't resist her. But all of the attraction in the world won't be enough to overcome Kate's past...
Kate’s usual choice of nachos over men is overturned when the guy at the bar actually turns out to be the one she really needs. Except that Matt Lane is a hot, former ex-cop turned P.I.–a dream and a nightmare come to life. With an adopted daughter with Down Syndrome, Matt’s no-commitment lifestyle is about to challenged when he realises it’s Kate whom he really wants, even after a failed marriage that had him strolling down the swinging bachelor walkway.
I did like the intrigue of Kate’s past and her beef with cops, although that really isn’t revealed until nearly the end of the book. Her lack of trust in Matt up to the end got a little annoying but Matt’s unwavering stalwart nature won out at last.
Falling for the P.I. is classic Victoria James: simple, saccharine sweet, family-centric and chock full of decent characters with pasts that still haunt them…with the affirmation that fairy tale endings can happen for ordinary people (at least in fiction).
